The Merchant of Venice Is a Tragicomedy....I Got 32/35 so...

A tragedy is a drama or literary work in which the protagonist is brought to ruin or suffers sorrow, especially as a consequence of tragic flaw or moral weakness. Where as, a comedy is a drama or literary work, that is light and often humorous or satirical in tone and it usually contains a happy resolution of the thematic conflict. Thus, a tragicomedy is a fictional work that blends aspects of the genres tragedy and comedy. In Shakespeare’s time a tragicomedy referred to a serious play with a happy ending or enough jokes throughout the play to lighten the mood. I consider the ‘Merchant of Venice’ by William Shakespeare a tragicomedy as both tragedy and comedy can be seen throughout the play. There are many factors that give proof to this†¦show more content†¦Also, when Bassanio tells Antonio that he is somewhat disturbed with the deal, Antonio ignores this as he is confident his ship will return in time. This is seen when Bassanio says, â€Å"I like not fair terms and a villain’s mind,† and Antonio replies saying, â€Å"Come on. In this there can be no dismay. My ships come home a month before the day,† It can be said that these flaws of Antonio has caused Shylocks hatred of him. These flaws of Antonio have caused Shylock to want a pound of his flesh. If it were not for Antonio’s tragic flaws, he would not have been in the situation that almost caused his death. Additionally, another factor of a tragedy is the struggle the tragic hero has to go through because of his tragic flaw and through this struggle he or she is able to change, usually for the better. Because of his tragic flaw Antonio made a deal with Shylock that if Antonio did not pay him the three thousand ducats he had borrowed within the three months then Shylock was allowed to take a pound of Antonio’s flesh. This is seen when Shylock says, â€Å" Three thousand ducats for three months†¦a pound of man’s flesh taken from a man,† Antonio was sure that he would have gotten his ships a month before his payment day was sue, however, this did not happen. This is seen when Bassanio read a letter that says, â€Å"Sweet Bassanio, my ships have all miscarried†¦my bond to the Jew is forfeit,† Antonio now owes Shylock a pound of his

Like the other forces in the general environment, demographic forces present managers with opportunities and threats and can have major implications for organizations (Jones, 2010, P. 145). With the research we were able to narrow our playing field down to women. We offered services for most anyone from ages 14 and up, but we knew our largest consumer would be women. Our products and services offered the public beauty enhancements from darkening light skin, reducing cellulite, anti-aging to toning the body. We tried our hand in marketing the business on a small scale, word of mouth. Word of mouth lead us through the spring and summer months when our products and services were most desirable. During the slower months we dabbled in newspaper advertisements as well as billboard advertisements. We arranged a menu of our services to allow clients the opportunity to share information about us and to learn about all the services and products that we offered. We researched the larger cities around us as well as the smaller communities that compared to ours. We looked for similar services and products to find a starting point in applying prices. A low-cost strategy is a way of obtaining customers by making decisions that allow an organization to produce goods or services more cheaply than its competitors so that it can charge lower prices than they do (Jones, 2010, P. 9). With this strategy in mind we adopted a theory, it’s better to have lower prices and more clients than higher prices and fewer clients. We wanted the competitive advantage. Planning strategy is complex and difficult, especially because planning is done under uncertainty when the result is unknown. Managers take major risks when they commit organizational resources to pursue a particular strategy (Jones, 2010, p. 19). Trying to hang with the â€Å"big dogs† we committed too much of our financial resources to offer bigger and better services for our small town. Lacking in money management and having a big vision the owner began splurging on high tech and high priced items with hopes of making the business boom. With little demand of the newest line of equipment that our organization invested in we realized we became too big too fast. We became the largest salon and spa in our area with 15 staff members, 12 tanning beds, over a hundred services, and thousands of dollars in inventory. Our staff included 3 part time receptionist and tanning bed operators, a massage therapist, an esthetician, 2 manicurists, and 8 hairstylists. Our goal was reached, but it was spiraling out of control. After evolving for seven years and after gambling over $600,000 in equipment and products our owner was in way over her head. The business was not sustaining itself any longer. The financial resources were depleted and the owner was forced to sell at a salvage price. Her intentions were good, but her management skills were weak and in the long run her strategies to succeed caused her to fail. Her task was to plan, organize, lead, and control and no self-evaluation was taken to measure her own performance. Before the next owner, a retired insurance branch manager, purchased the business he had one requirement. The requirement was that a manager would be hired to run it with little assistance from him. The manager hired was me. The new owner was under the impression that the business was self-sustaining and thought since I had 4 years’ experience assisting the previous owner and I was knowledgeable of the business that I would be a great candidate for management. I had little business management education, a large ego and I lacked most of the important skills to managing a business. Three important skills to have when effectively managing a business is: conceptual, human, and technical skills. One of the biggest problems that people who start small businesses confront, for example, is their lack of appropriate conceptual and human skills. Someone who has the technical skills to start a new business does not necessarily know how to manage the venture successfully (Jones, Gareth, 2010, P. 26). I was more skillful with conceptual skills than I was with human skills and technical skills. As a young inexperienced woman my first task was to gain confidence. My emotions were in it and I desired respect. Gaining respect from a group of women that had been in the industry for a combined total of over 70 years was tough. I did not have the ability to manage my emotions very well. I struggled for months with one particular employee that knew what buttons to push on me. From the beginning my job satisfaction was low. I allowed her personality to get to me and it disrupted my decision making. When the situation was at its peak I asked her to leave. Another obstacle I faced was similar to the previous owner; I did not know how to manage money. Looking back I can see where mistakes were made. The reception area was unorganized, but it had the potential to be great. So in my efforts of developing control systems I began organizing the reception department. I typed up a manual of ways of handling most situations that may occur between a client and the receptionist. Professional customer service was my goal. I laid out the plan on paper with the manual and next I approached the receptionists. We came up with simple phone greetings and methods of communicating to clients over the phone and in person. We found new and better ways to organize the appointment book so that everyone knew their schedule and had all the appropriate information on each client. These new approaches caught on. The more the reception area was organized and prepared the less likely they had to depend on me. They had the confidence they needed to handle their responsibilities. We gathered information from clients and salon consultants to improve our business and the services available to clients. With minor changes we were able to spice up the appearance of our tanning department as well as help organize it. We took the same approach to our laundry room and spa area. We framed the changes so that clients would find the materials they needed for their service more easily. Little by little the departments were looking better and better. The clients were noticing the changes and enjoying them. I analyzed figures and came up with new tanning packages to increase sells, marked down products periodically to move old product out. I developed a webpage of our business to increase traffic. We sold gift certificates on our website, usually selling hundreds of dollars’ worth each quarter. Each month we had a spa special which included a skin care service and a massage service. We kept our website updated monthly with each new special. We also started a salon fan page on Facebook so that our clients could view daily, weekly, and monthly specials. This really kept our business connected to the community. Our goal was to constantly remind our clients to come visit us whether to buy for themselves or for someone they loved. Getting our name out to the community and giving the community an idea of what we did and what we were about was important. We wanted them to know that they deserved to be pampered and we had the services to help them relax from head to toe. Our efforts showed a small climb in sells. I was quickly seeing that advertising was essential to our business’ growth. Advertising was not always cheap, but using Facebook and our webpage was cheaper and easier way to advertise on a daily basis. Occasionally we did newspaper advertisements and local business card ads in menus for restaurants and school flyers. We also met with a local graphic designer to design our new service brochure and our business cards. This was a cheap way of getting our name out. We dropped these off at local businesses and gave them out to every new and old client. Another way that we pointed ourselves out was purchasing new awnings with our logo on them so that people could see us from a distance. We also purchased banners with our name and information to set up at chamber events, parades, and other community events. We were chamber members and we helped sponsored chamber events. All of this was done over the course of 2 years. Every once in a while we planned meetings to get feedback from employees and staff and to update everyone on changes. The meetings were usually a time to complain and that is one place I struggled. I did not step outside the box to make the meetings fun and enjoyable. They were usually dry and long. We also tried planning events where we could all enjoy ourselves, like going to a hibachi grill or having holiday parties. When we held those events they were fun and we should have done more of them to pep up the staff and encourage them. As time went on it just seemed harder to plan and encourage people, because I felt so burden with the business battling with the economy. Struggling to pay bills for the business I consulted the owner. He gave me the opportunity to improve the financial situation, but with the crashing economy and an absence of money management I was unable to grasp control of the situation. The owner began assisting me on orders and paying bills as he shelved money into the business to keep it afloat. We cut back on hourly wages and I covered the reception area more. The idea of selling the business seemed better each month. Selling the business would probably mean me losing my job. In my second year of management I took a manicurist class at a local community college to obtain my manicurist license. I did this knowing we did not have enough staff to handle the demand for manicurist services. I finished in May and was able to bring in more income for the business by being available to render the services. By November the owner was looking for a prospect to purchase the business. During this time our full time manicurist told us she would be moving out of the country and leaving her clientele behind. So by mid-December I was taking over a full clientele and stepping away from my position as manager. January 1st we were officially owned and operated by a hairstylist that had only been with us for 4 months. I assisted the newest owner as she began managing the salon and spa. I worked with her for about a month showing her how to prepare payroll, taxes, and schedules. I illustrated ways of increasing revenue. One way I mentioned would help was to set up televisions in all the departments of the business advertising each department. Knowing that all of our tanners did not know what all we offered and all of our hair clients did not know we offered other services, this would have been a great way to advertise to our existing clients. We even spoke with a videographer and she agreed to swop services, so no money would be exchanged. Months have gone by and we have no televisions. As a small-business owner, you need to juggle many different roles, and tapping into all available resources is essential (Anonymous, 2009, Running A Successful Small Business ). So we analyzed the monthly figures and came up with ways to use fewer resources. I gave her advice on how to run the reception area, as well as, when to order inventory. Like me, she became overwhelmed in the first couple of months. Her managing style was different than anyone we had worked with before. She herself had no managing experience. Her ways were not consistent and out of order. If you were being reprimanded she would do so in front of other people including the clients. The respect people had for her went out the window. Unfortunately, her low-cost strategy was by abstaining from ordering products. She also put family members in the reception area to save money. Working as a full time hairstylist she was not able to assist or train the receptionist properly. A few of the staff members gave a few hours a week to help her save money on hourly wages. We also gave up our small commissions on product sells so that she could use the money as needed. To settle in my new position, to learn the daily responsibilities of operating my manicurist business, and allow the newest owner to become independent I had to back away from assisting her. She and her husband now operate it. They are struggling to make the business grow and to depend on fewer resources. The majority of the business’s income is made in the spring and summer months. During the fall and winter months it takes much more effort to bring in revenue and to minimize cost. I have managed my on manicurist business for 7 months now. Taking some of the skills that I have learned from my experience as manager and the education that I have received over the last few months has motivated me to plan, organize, lead, and control my business. I have not done any advertisements; I have grown by word of mouth. I enjoy what I do and I believe it shows in my work. Occasionally I will buy a box of cards and mail them out to my clients to let them know that I appreciate them and if there is an illness or an issue in their family I will send one out. My business has grown and has become established, I believe, all because of the faith that I have and the skills that I have learned. She had at least five children with another slave that her master married her to named Thomas. For a while she lived in slavery until a day in 1826 when Isaac Van Wagener set her free. In irony less then a year later slavery was banned in New York. Right after slavery had been made illegal she went to court and recovered her smallest son who had been sold away. In 1829 she went to New York City and supported herself with domestic employment. While in New York City she met Elijah Pierson, a religious missionary. She joined his retrenchment society and eventually his household. In 1843 she left New York City and changed her name to Sojourner Truth, which she used from then on. Obeying a voice she said she heard from god travel up and down the land she went to churches all over the place and got people to accept the Bible and God. In 1850 she wrote a book which she named "The Narrative of Sojourner Truth". One other thing that Sojourner Truth was famous for was her "Ain't I A Women" speech in 1851 at the Women's Rights Convention. No formal record of it exists, but Frances Gage who was the president of the convention, recounted Truth's words. She said that the words Ain't I A Women were very strong and uplifting. Also they have become common words women use today to show their rights. In the 1850s she settled in Battle Creek, Michigan. While here she gathered supplies for black volunteer regiments and in 1864 went to Washington D.C., where she helped integrate street cars and was received at the White House by Abraham Lincoln. For the rest of her life she helped fight for freedom of slaves all around the U.S. then in 1875 she returned to Battle Creek, where she stayed until her death. ...

Today’s traveler is driven by the commercial forces of globalization and improved communications in the World which has seen travel and tourism grow as an industry. In the ancient and medieval ages however, when traveling was not that simple and safe, a few adventurists quite literally walked across the globe or what ever was known of it then. These were men as Benjamin of Tudela, Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta, who covered vast spaces compared to capacity of transportation in the era in which they lived and have left rich sources of history documented in their travels. There is much debate over the relevance of the jottings made by these travelers to modern day history. Sceptics tend to question the authenticity and objectiveness as well as ability to portray a correct picture of a cross cultural interaction which these travelers tend to pursue from their own perspective. Travel literature has substantial relevance in providing authentic information of cross cultural interaction, the cross cultural trends, a perception of cross cultural association between people and is proving to be a good source of authentic and endearing history today as it provides a perspective in today’s world through an understanding of medieval religion and cultures. Information of cross-cultural interaction   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The ancient and medieval times were denoted by lack of developed communications and modes of interaction for travel. There were also very limited historical recordings and what ever existed was at the behest of the ruling cliques, thereby making it biased. The historian today is left with primary records which are substantiated by such travelogues for a dispassionate view of cross cultural interaction. Thus travelogues do serve as important benchmark documents for historical purpose. This would be evident from recounting of travels through the Middle East during the medieval period in the writings of Benjamin of Tuleda, which tends to support the various historical happenings during the period by sources from both sides of the Islam and Christian divide.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Travelers as Benjamin who was a Jew could also benefit from interaction with those of his community who were spread across the region. Since the Jews were relatively unbiased during the period of the Crusades, their observations supplanted the travelers own perception providing further substance to the history of the region. While some may consider it as not the purest form of notation, in denoting cross cultural trends it could be considered more than appropriate and accurate. The excessive focus on the state of the Jews in Benjamin’s writing however to some extent indicates that the view of culture is primarily from an overly Semitic perspective of a Rabbi and authenticity is probably sacrificed but then a deeper reading would overcome this perception. Battuta’s writings span a much large cross cultural area extending from Jerusalem, Damascus, Syria, and East Africa while Marco Polo’s travelogues are also very genuine impressions of cross cultural trends. Each of the chapters he writes covers the various aspects of a particularly community that he has observed be it the cropping pattern, food habits and the monarchical way of governance. Marco very assiduously provides an overview of each facet in great detail. Perceptive Observers Providing Authenticity   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The intention of the travelers in their journey was multi focal. Thus some such as Benjamin did it for the purpose of seeking opportunities of trade or to find out about the state of personnel of his own community residing in various parts of the Middle East after being persecuted in their native lands. The meticulous recording of ethnographic details in his writing provides very insightful observations on cross cultural trends which highlights the capacity of its originator. Thus we find in Benjamin’s writings the details of how and when the Egyptian monarch travels, what are the proclivities of the people during various periods and the rivalries that existed even in those time between Cairo and Baghdad. It is also relevant to see that a person traveling beyond his immediate geographical and cultural setting would also be keen to obtain fresh insights into the lives of other communities. Thus observations of Marco Polo need to be taken note off with greater acceptance of the fidelity.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The meticulous logging of the timings in terms of a virtual daily log provides an excellent record of the period, the state of development, the manner in which communities lived and the state of their culture in vivid details. Ibn Battuta who was overwhelmed by the need to travel and thus sets out from his native place at the tender age of 22 years, is also a very keen observer and thus his recordings attain a high quality of relevance particularly in the cross cultural context. His descriptive writings on Cairo or Alexandria are very perceptive providing an innate understanding of the era. The description of events, the handling of camels, the holding of ceremonies all are very effectively portrayed by the traveler, giving a good understanding of the period. The meticulous recording of customs such as movement of women naked in some societies as in Mali and cannibalism are stark etchings on the history of a cross cultural trend.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Marco Polo again has provided   a wealth of material on cross cultural trends which denotes an excellent eye for detail and power of observation across a large expanse of area from Europe to China, Tibet to India and other areas. The burning of, â€Å"black stones†, is perhaps a recorded intervention by Marco, which indicates the level and depth of his observations. Marco’s observation are supplemented by a comparison between various cultures be it Chinese, Middle Eastern or Central Asian traditions of Bokhara. This provides a deep insight into cultural happenings of the era. Perspective of Modern Day Understanding   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Today Islam and the West appear to be undergoing a serious crisis, some view it as a clash of civilization matching. There is very limited understanding of each others religions, traditions, culture and ideological basis. Being a Rabbi from Spain, Benjamin was relatively detached to enable a more objective assessment of the conflict which was occurring between Islam and Christianity in the medieval ages. His tour of the principal areas of the Middle East as well as Europe and Asia provided a fresh insight not just into the period but also the cross cultural linkages between these areas over the ages. The peace and prosperity in Egypt described so authentically by Benjamin provide an excellent insight in the functioning of well governed medieval states. In each of the places that he visits Battuta makes mention of specifics which indicate a keen eye for detail. It is natural that a person with a good view of the details will remain also particular of the accuracy of his writings. Thus enhancing their historical value. Ordellia Darlington 00011164 Portfolio Entry IV At first, the notion of Shouter Baptist being considered a religion was a joke to me. Whenever, I heard the name Shouter Baptist only one thing came to my mind â€Å"obeah people†. There were times that I will see them in prayer and I will cross the street. Nevertheless, the electrifying power point video accompanied with other sources has taught me a great deal on the religion, the people and their rituals.I had always assumed that all the Shouter Baptists had to offer was â€Å"catching power† by means of shaking and speaking in tongues. I had believed that the Shouter Baptists were spiritually possessed. However, never had I known that speaking tongues is similar to conversing with God. Evidence of this is shown in the book of Acts. 2:1-8. Speaking tongues is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit referred to in the Bible. It can be described as a phenomenon during which the believer speaks in languages unknown to him / he r in his / her everyday life.Another aspect I never understood was the significance of some of the symbols the Shouter Baptists frequently use. Symbols such as the bell, lothar, incense and flowers play an important role in the Shouter Baptist faith. The bell is used at the beginning of the service to call members to worship, at the end of the service or according to spiritual instructions. It is said to awaken the believers’ souls to the presence of the Holy Spirit. I now understand what is meant by the saying â€Å"Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings†?The lothar is a vessel used in the church. It symbolizes the holy state of man before God in worship and contains water and flowers. The flowers beautify the church and symbolize peace, love and joy, which are kept alive by the water of life. Flowers are God’s handiwork and are used to decorate the altar, center pole and corners of the church. It also represent man’s first habitat, the Garden o f Eden. What I admire about the Shouter Baptists is their willingness to give back to society.They give thanks to God various times throughout the year feeding the children in their community. For Thanksgiving, Shouter Baptists express gratitude to God for his blessings through, full gospel and prayers, singing, clapping and rejoicing. The children in the community are given food and snacks. The Thanksgiving is held after special occasions in members’ lives, such as success in an undertaking, or recovery from an illness. It also recognizes God’s mercy.The Shouter Baptist belief in giving thanks is supported by Luke 14: 12-14 (â€Å"Then Jesus said to his host, â€Å"When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbours; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13  But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14  and you will be ble ssed. The secrets to writing effective subheadings The secrets of effective subheadings Its easy to treat subheadings as a token afterthought once youve gone through the hard work of actually writing your document. But its worth paying more attention to them than that. They can be an effective tool in drawing your reader in to your full text or helping them find your most important points. Now you want people to read it (or what was the point?). You probably know no one wants to look at a big block of text, so you break it up. Good start. But thats not enough, is it? No, you also need signposts – like subheadings. Well, that looks better already. And subheadings dont just help your writing look good and your documents more inviting. They can work much harder than that. More on that in a minute. But first, a word of warning. Far too often, people write subheadings like these: Background Our experience Recommendations Background: What does that tell you about whats coming? Not much. Our experience: Is that specific? Not really. Recommendations: Are you engaged by this? Do you want to follow these signposts? Probably not. If youre trying to find your way in the world, a signpost will be no help at all if it doesnt actually tell you what its pointing to. And, just like signposts youd follow to get somewhere, your subheadings have to be specific. They have to tell your reader exactly whats ahead, to help them get where they need to go. Even better if your subheading signposts make the reader want to go there. For example: Background âžÅ"  What you told us Our experience âžÅ" 40 years in the business Recommmendations âžÅ" How well meet your aims So, what techniques can you use to inspire subheadings that not only draw your reader in but also lead them through your document? Well, remember: well-written subheadings can make your reader want to dive in. So try some of these techniques. Direct Interest Verbs Evoke curiosity with a question Insight (to expand on) Numbers Play on words (if appropriate) Short (ish) Make sure your subheadings are direct and to the point. Corporation tax rate reduced Say something that will be of interest to the reader. How to expand our customer base Try using verbs – remember, those are the ‘doing’ and ‘being’ words. Doing so sounds dynamic and might even encourage action in some cases. Industry achieves positive change Evoke curiosity with a question. Ready for the low-carbon future? Give an insight that you’ll expand on in the following section. Real estate to outperform Try including a number – a technique often used online, which lets your reader know exactly how much information to expect. Five ways to combat climate change And theres a PS You can use a play on words – but only if you think it’s appropriate to the tone of your document and the intended reader. Face the storm with catastrophe bonds And finally: remember to keep your subheadings shortish. They should be long enough to be meaningful but short enough to be understood and absorbed quickly. So, try some of these techniques for signposting your next document and see how far it takes you. To sum up Remember, the best subheadings will read like an overview of your document – but they should also be compelling enough to encourage readers to dive in to the main copy. If you write online content, like blog posts, remember that website visitors do tend to skim-read a page before deciding whether to stay on it. The right subheadings could help tip the balance in your favour. Help your readers navigate In an ideal world, your documents and emails would never be skim-read. But, realistically, some of your time-pressed colleagues or clients will have to do just that. In which case, well-chosen subheadings will at least give them a summary and help them quickly find the most relevant parts. Find your route Subheadings can also help you with your writing process: try coming up with them as part of the planning stage before you write the body of the document, when youre deciding the structure. Or, if you prefer, you could read through the summary your subheads make after youve finished the document to double-check its structure: did you pick the best route? You can then adjust the order if necessary (but dont forget to make sure the text still flows logically). Keep it appropriate Just like anything else you write, judge the suitability of your subheadings against the tone of the document and what you know about the reader. Somehow, gradually he realizes that it is not a matter of ailmen t and convalescence; rather, it is a struggle between life and death, where death is sure to overcome life one day or the other. Ilych experiences severe physical pains at the verge of death, and starts cursing the situation turning his state unbearable (169). He is being attended by the peasant boy, though family members also arrive at there by that time. As a result, out of sheer pains, he starts inviting death to relieve him from such suffering immediately (171). Hence, death, to Ilych is the phenomenon that not only unveils the mysteries of universe before the dying person, but also it brings the message of comfort and relief from the worries of life, and physical and mental agonies and pains, which Ilych experiences during last few hours of undergoing severe pain before breathing his last (171). The novel concentrates upon death phenomenon, and man’s certain departure from this world one day after spending some specific time period on the face of the earth. Using Perceptual Maps in Marketing Simulation Essay Throughout this paper the situation of Cruisers Thorr Motorcycles will be discussed along with suggestions and recommended solutions, and finally the results. Isolation and positioning of products or services will show in this paper. Additionally, it will debate how the product was affected in the simulation because of the product life cycle in marketing. The business of Thorr Motorcycles assembles about 200,000 bikes a year. The company is a five billion dollar very accomplished business. The company also manufactures leather goods, T-shirts, toys, and shoes. The high end of the company is the Cruiser Thorr. Although the industry in thriving, the Thorr Motorcycle sales are diminishing (University of Phoenix, 2011). One issue steaming from the decline in sales has to do with the targeted audience. Thorr Motorcycles have become an expensive and classic bike appealing more to the older 35 to 50 year-old age groups. Though the younger generations are interested it becomes less appealing because of the price. The younger generations do not have the income to purchase a Cruiser Thorr Motorcycle. Furthermore, it is important that the company carries on and is successful, so the market strategy must be altered. The company decides to implement a perpetual map in marketing to come to a decision whether or not they should reposition Cruiser Thorr or introduce RRoth motorcycle. RRoth is more affordable and a lower quality to attract the younger generation (Kotler P, n.d). At times in is not always necessary that the product fit the exact desires of the audiences that was targeted, but rather consumers perceives that it does. To be successful in this tactic the correct amount of advertising and putting out the right message are both essential to the marketing plan. When looking at different segments a product can tend to target just one segment specifically, or it can be planned to meet the attributes of several segments to an extent. When using the latter approach, it gives the opportunity to touch on different segments at the same time (University of Phoenix, 2011). This, of course, depends on the life cycle of the product and to decide the value of research and development and what the competition segments are doing. The first step in the simulation is to determine the market position of the Cruiser Thorr. The restrictions include creating the Perceptual Map in Marketing lifestyle image, price, service offerings, engine capacity, safety, product design and styling, quality engineering, and product uniqueness. In the motorcycle business the lifestyle imaging is of high importance for the older generations that are interested in the Thorr (Kotler P, n.d). This industry is based on how others perceive your style and imagining. Of course the consumers desire play and important part as well as the price. The appearance and the style of the product is what attract the potential consumer to the product. The build and functionality of the motor or engine capacity is of high importance to buyer also. The four essentials that were chosen to develop the perceptual map as product design and styling, services offering, quality engineering, and price. The second part of the simulation presented the option of repositioning the Cruiser Thorr or introducing a new product. The new product is different from Thorr in the aspect of attracting the younger generation with style and a low price to compete with the competition. The decision was made to introduce the RRoth motorcycle to target a new audience and increase sales. Next the marketing plan by splitting a budget into price, product, promotions, and services provided (Kotler P, n.d). Finally, analyzing and reviewing the results of the marketing strategy. This part was enjoyable because you get to see cause and effect and get feedback on the decisions that were made (University of Phoenix, 2011). The simulation was an effective and educational tool. It allowed the options of making a personal decision based on facts and background of a company. Than developing a marketing plan by choosing what you think would be most effective for the future of the company.
